Before starting the business of Advanced Geo-Design Inc., he was a Project Engineer with Geosyntec’s Geostructural and Construction Engineering practice group. He worked with multi-disciplinary engineering groups within Geosyntec to provide various geo-structural designs for clients across the US.

Before joining Geosyntec, he had seven years of geotechnical design-build experience with Keller North America, the largest geotechnical specialty contractor in North America. During his time there, he worked in both the Chicago-area and Irvine-area offices, focusing on developing innovative, cost-effective, and constructible designs, as well as quality control/quality assurance measures for a variety of specialty ground improvement methods. These included seismic and static solutions such as aggregate piers/stone columns, soil densification and soil mixing, rigid inclusions, and support of excavation systems involving cantilever, tieback, and internal bracing. He has geotechnical engineering experience in soil-structure interaction problems, numerical analysis using Plaxis 2D/3D and FLAC, foundation design, liquefaction analysis and mitigation design, load testing, and development of plans and performance specifications.  

As a specialty contractor and geo-structural designer in the Midwest, SoCal, and Bay Area, he worked extensively with cross-functional teams (engineers, estimators, construction project managers, safety managers, and specialty equipment operators). John’s project portfolio covered both the private and public sectors, with values of up to $26MM. He worked on numerous industrial, commercial, and residential projects, as well as schools, hospitals, and transportation infrastructure. 

With 15 years of experience in geostructural design, Thang Nguyen is a highly skilled
professional specializing in ground modification, earth retention, and deep foundation systems. As a formal Senior Design Engineer at Hayward Baker, he was responsible for the design and construction oversight of complex projects involving piles, micropiles, soil mixing, stone column, jet grouting, and other ground improvement techniques for challenging sites. In addition to technical expertise, he is also a licensed General Contractor, which provides a practical, on-the-ground perspective to every project.

Thang Nguyen is one of the founding partners of Advanced Geo Design, Inc., where
they lead a team providing expert design, peer reviews, plan checks, and litigation
support across various sectors. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in 10 states.
